Joe Mawdsley - updated with funeral details
It is with great sadness that we have to report that Joe Mawdsley passed away
yesterday, unexpectedly, at home aged 94.
Joe was the ultimate gentleman and hero in the truest sense of the word.
Our sympathies extend to Flo, Graham, Trisha and all his family at this most difficult time.
Joe's time in WW2 are well documented and recently the Club made note of this on their website with a link to an ITV interview which can be found here.
Joe's funeral is on Monday 18th November at 11.45 at Christ Church,Aughton, followed by cremation at 1pm at West Lancashire Crematorium. The wake will be held at Ormskirk Cricket Club.
On a personal note I've known Joe for over 40 years, and a nicer person I have yet to meet. Genuine, caring, thoughtful are a few of the words that spring to mind, all his friends at the Club will miss Joe but his memory will live on.

Would just like to say I've never met anyone like Joe. A true one off, the perfect gentleman, never a bad word to say about anyone, always asking and enquiring about our Hannah, Joe and Jill. He really was a genuine bloke. A hero in my eyes and so humble. I'll miss you Joe. Cricket Saturdays will be weird without you there in that window with your cuppa and butties. RIP mate .

My sincerest condolences go out to Joe’s family for their loss.
One of the nicest men you could meet, he will be sadly missed by everyone.
A hero for his country and an extremely popular member of Ormskirk Cricket Club, Joe will not be forgotten.
Rest in peace Joe.
